Basilica of St. John the Baptist, 8 p.m.
Morten Lauridsen - Lux Aeterna
Ola Gjeilo - Sunrise Mass
QVE launches its 20th season with the St. John's premiere performance of two of the most acclaimed choral works of our time.
Lux Aeterna (Eternal Light) by Grammy-nominated Morten Lauridsen was hailed as "a classic of new American choral writing" by The Times of London. You'll also hear the transcendent film-score themes of the Sunrise symphonic mass for choir and strings by Ola Gjeilo, composer-in-residence with the Grammy-winning Phoenix Chorale.
The magnificent Basilica plays host to the 46 voices of the international-award-winning QVE, with a 20-piece all-star orchestra of the city's finest instrumentalists, under the direction of Susan Quinn. This is the third concert in QVE's "Choral Works! Master Series" initiative for major classical works, inspired by the memory of music educator Sister Kathrine Bellamy.
Tickets $20 ($18 senior/student), available at the Holy Heart Theatre Box Office (579-4424) or on line at www.holyhearttheatre.com (service charge applies). Tickets are also available through choir members and will be available at the concert.
